Ask Mr Call

Send a room, a budget, and two or three sofas you are considering. I record a fifteen-to-twenty-minute video with the verdict and the reasoning. One hundred fifty dollars. One question, one answer.

For most of the last twenty-five years, this work was only available behind a private retainer. The retainer kept the expertise out of most American homes. The site is funded by affiliate commissions, which keeps the reviews free. This service is funded directly, which keeps the conversation private. Same eye, same standard.

How It Works

01

Submit the brief.

The intake form asks for room dimensions, a photo of the space, your budget, and the two or three sofas you are considering. It takes about five minutes to fill out. Payment is taken at submission.

02

I review the brief.

I read the brief, pull the specs on each sofa submitted, and cross-reference them against the Call Standard™. Most briefs take about an hour of review before recording.

03

The video lands in your inbox.

Within five business days, you receive a fifteen-to-twenty-minute private video. The verdict comes first. The reasoning follows — construction, fabric, proportion, what will hold up, what will not, and which of the options I would specify if you were a private client.

04

One follow-up question is included.

If the video raises a clarification, you can send one follow-up question within seven days. I reply by text or a short video. After that, the consultation closes.

Questions

What kind of questions work best?

Specific ones. "Which of these three sofas should I buy for my living room?" is the ideal question. A whole-home scope is a different service — one that requires a designer in the room, not a recorded reply.

Will you recommend pieces you have not reviewed publicly?

Yes. The consultation is not limited to approved sofas. If one of the options is from a brand not yet covered at mrcalldesigns.com, I apply the Call Standard™ to it and give a verdict.

Do affiliate relationships influence the verdict?

No. The verdict is independent of any affiliate program. I will recommend a sofa from a retailer with no affiliate relationship if that is the right answer. The fee is what funds the consultation.

Can I book multiple consultations?

Yes. Each is $150 and each is a separate brief. Most people only need one.

What if I do not like the verdict?

You keep the video and the reasoning. The service is the verdict, not the outcome. I will tell you which sofa to buy. I will not tell you what you want to hear.

Is this the same advice your private-practice clients got?

Yes. Same standard, same eye, same honesty. The only difference is the format — a recorded video instead of a showroom walk-through.

Are live consultations available?

Not at this time. The recorded format is what keeps the price at $150. Live work returns to retainer pricing, which is the model this service was built to replace.
